Welcome to the first ever Jewish Holiday Blog Party, hosted by Jessie of Taste and Miriam of Overtime Cook, and sponsored by Kitchen Aid! As you may know, Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year is coming up, and Jewish bloggers from all over the world are celebrating with all kinds of twists on traditional Rosh Hashanah foods.
This is the first of hopefully many exciting Holiday Blog Parties, so if you would like to join in the fun, please email holidayblogparties@
For the blog party this year, I decided to make a nontraditional salad that incorporates a lot of the sweet Rosh Hashanah foods that are eaten on the holiday. With pomegranate seeds, apples and honey, this coleslaw makes the perfect quick, healthy and refreshing side dish for your holiday meal.

Pomegranate Coleslaw
1 14oz. bag coleslaw
1 Granny Smith apple, julienned
2 scallions, sliced
1/3 cup pomegranate seeds (how to deseed a pomegranate)
1/4 cup grapeseed oil
2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp whole grain mustard (with mustard seeds)
salt, to taste
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Method:
Combine coleslaw, apple matchsticks, pomegranate seeds and scallions. In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar, honey and mustard. Pour the dressing over the salad and mix gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper.
NOTE: If you have a custom not to use vinegar on Rosh Hashanah, you may substitute with lemon juice.
VARIATION: For sweeter coleslaw, increase honey by 1-2 tbsp and add chopped pitted dates.

This sounds so good! Thank you for participating!
What a wonderful idea to assemble menus, is the one thing I often feel is missing from otherwise terrific recipe/food blogs.
An amazing collection of talented cooks.
Love the idea of something sweet in a coleslaw! Definitely putting this on my list to try. Thanks for joining the party!
Yum what a pretty slaw!!
So so so pretty!!! Totally gonna make this recipe for RH :)
This sounds so much lighter and more refreshing than the usual coleslaw (prettier, too). I love honey mustard dressing!
sounds yum! Will try this one. question, What is whole grain mustard? Any mustard with the seeds? is there a certain brand u can suggest. Thanks!
It’s basically a grainy mustard that has whole seeds in it. You should be able to find it in the mustard section of any supermarket (I know Benz’s carries it). Any company is fine (right now the Bornier brand is in my fridge). Good luck!
Stunning. Just stunning! I’ll bet the pomegranate adds a really nice crunch! Yum.
How pretty is that?!Love the twist with the grapeseed oil. Just lovely. Wishing you and your family Shana Tova!
Such a pretty coleslaw!
Yum, this is def going on my menu this year, I am thinking I can bring it to someone’s Sukkah and hope for more invites.
what a great way to sweeten coleslaw…my family would love this!
I”m sorry I missed the holiday blog party! Next time for sure. This coleslaw looks delicious, I am going to add it to my holiday menu.
Such a great idea!! love it!
love the complementary combination of flavors in this. I make all sorts of coleslaw, this is a new one for me.
so much better than standard coleslaw! awesome idea
Lovely pic, so inviting I am looking forward to making it. thanks for putting together this group made a new menu this year ! Much Bracha to all for the New Year!
Hi Chanie
i made this on rosh hashana- it was perfect! thanks for all the posts! im a fan :)
cousin Miri
Thanks Miri, so good to hear from you!
I made this on Rosh Hashana. Instead of cider vinegar I used lemon juice and omitted the mustard seed. It was a big hit!!
So glad to hear Chanie, thanks for sharing!
Good morning. Cool web-site. I wanted to ask, though, where
did you purchase the theme? Or did you make it your-self?
I’m putting up my own site and am shopping around for a theme as great as this one.
Many thanks.
I use the This Just In! theme for WordPress, by John Crenshaw. It was free when I downloaded it.
where can i find grapeseed oil and whole grain mustard-any subs for any of those?
They should both be available in any major supermarket. You can use extra light olive oil in place of the grapeseed oil and dijon mustard for the whole grain.
This sounds delicious and different. I want to make it for Rosh Hashana and am wondering if better made ahead or same day. I’m a bit behind schedule planning tomorrow’s meal today.
L’Shana Tova!
Hi Robyn, I’m sorry I didn’t see your comment until now. I don’t know if you made the salad in the end, but it can be made ahead of time.
