Pomegranate Coleslaw

Welcome to the first ever Jewish Holiday Blog Party, hosted by Jessie of Taste and Miriam of Overtime Cook, and sponsored by Kitchen Aid! As you may know, Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year is coming up, and Jewish bloggers from all over the world are celebrating with all kinds of twists on traditional Rosh Hashanah foods.

For the blog party this year, I decided to make a nontraditional salad that incorporates a lot of the sweet Rosh Hashanah foods that are eaten on the holiday. With pomegranate seeds, apples and honey, this coleslaw makes the perfect quick, healthy and refreshing side dish for your holiday meal.

  1. What a wonderful idea to assemble menus, is the one thing I often feel is missing from otherwise terrific recipe/food blogs.

    An amazing collection of talented cooks.

    1. It’s basically a grainy mustard that has whole seeds in it. You should be able to find it in the mustard section of any supermarket (I know Benz’s carries it). Any company is fine (right now the Bornier brand is in my fridge). Good luck!

  2. I made this on Rosh Hashana. Instead of cider vinegar I used lemon juice and omitted the mustard seed. It was a big hit!!

    did you purchase the theme? Or did you make it your-self?
    I’m putting up my own site and am shopping around for a theme as great as this one.

    1. They should both be available in any major supermarket. You can use extra light olive oil in place of the grapeseed oil and dijon mustard for the whole grain.

  4. This sounds delicious and different. I want to make it for Rosh Hashana and am wondering if better made ahead or same day. I’m a bit behind schedule planning tomorrow’s meal today.
